Science
Light is more than what we see.
Beyond vision, light sets our 24-hour rhythms, our alertness and our sleep. Combining the visual and non-visual effects is called integrative lighting — and it can now be measured.

CIE S 026:2018
Five photoreceptors. One standard.
The international standard quantifies light by how strongly it activates each of the eye's five photoreceptor types — including melanopsin in the ipRGCs that talk directly to the body clock.
Why trust us
We teach the field. Then we build for it.
Few teams in the world know more about how light affects people and nature. What makes us different is that we turn that knowledge into products people actually use.

We know the science
We teach integrative lighting to PhD students at leading universities, including DTU and Stanford, and run field studies with Oxford. Our measurements follow CIE S 026.
We understand your needs
A facility manager wants fewer complaints. A coach wants rested athletes. A city wants safe roads and dark nature. We start there.
We make it usable
We turn research into sensors, software and lighting control that work out of the box — under our brand or yours.
What we measure
The metrics behind good light.
- Lux
- How bright light looks to the eye.
- mEDI
- Melanopic equivalent daylight illuminance — how strongly light signals 'day' to the body clock.
- mDER
- Melanopic daylight efficacy ratio — how 'daylight-like' a light source is.
- CCT
- Correlated colour temperature, warm to cool.
- SPD
- The full spectral power distribution — the fingerprint of a light source.
Sustainability
Lighting knowledge supports at least 12 of the 17 UN SDGs.
According to the CIE Research Strategy 2023–2027. These are where Ocutune contributes most directly.
3
Good health & well-being
Better sleep, mood and performance through the right light.
7
Affordable & clean energy
Light only where and when it's needed.
11
Sustainable cities
Smarter street lighting and darker, healthier nights.
15
Life on land
Protecting pollinators and wildlife from light at night.
